Weekly Prayer Letter

How wonderful it is to see a messenger coming across the mountains, bringing good news, the news of peace! He announces victory and says to Zion, "Your God is king!" - Isaiah 52:7

Missions

The Baptist World Alliance requests prayer for and funding to assist ±500 Iraqi Christian families who fled from Mosul and Karakosh to Irbil in the Kurdistan Region. A sum of US$90 for an average family of six persons is needed for mattresses, blankets and a two-week food supply. Gifts can be sent via the BU of SA office who will pass these on to Baptist World Aid.
Pray also for those in West Africa, including a number of Baptists, who have been affected by the Ebola virus, especially in Liberia which has only 51 doctors for a population of over 4 million (78 431 people per doctor)!
On 25/26th Sept, there is a “Muslim Awareness” Seminar aimed at equipping and mobilising the churches to reach Muslims everywhere for Christ. If interested in attending please contact Peter Smallbones.

CBC Family

When you pray for our church family, why not contact them – either phone call, sms, email etc. – and let them know that they have been in your thoughts and prayers. This will be a great encouragement to all.

Margaret Grant has left for the UK on an extended visit to family.

Please pray for the elderly who are not often able to get out – John and Faith Leslie (Sherwood House), Kay Davison (Huis Nuweland), David Green (Riverside).
Do be in prayer for Peter and Megan as they consider where God is leading them next year.

CBC Ministries

Do pray for our church ministries – your influence goes far further than you can imagine! I received an email from a lady now living in Scotland in which she said “This morning, as I was praying for you all at Claremont Baptist, I suddenly remembered how very long ago I was born again through the ministry of CBC - it was 76 years ago that I gave my heart to the Lord as my Saviour, and 70 years ago, I was baptised there.” Everyone who is involved in some ministry is doing a work that has life changing and eternal results!

Sunday 21st will be the Missions Sunday when Ed and Vivienne Moses will be with us.
The next Claremont Community Market will be on Sunday September 28th . We need books, Bric-a-Brac, crafts etc. Watch this space for details.
There will be a Spiritual Gifts Workshop on Sept 27th . This is designed to help you find the right place to serve God. Contact Eric le Roux should you want to attend.
There is a Trustees meeting on Tuesday 23rd Sept.

Denominational

September is going to be a very busy month as we count down the days to the start of the 2014 Baptist Union Assembly. Strandfontein Baptist is excited at the privilege of hosting the Assembly in their 1 000-seater auditorium. Two neighbouring churches will be used for breakaway sessions and the meals will be served in a brand new School Hall close by. Accommodation will be in Chalets in surrounding areas and in homes within the community. We are looking forward to welcoming our Baptist family back to Cape Town once again. We also extend an invitation to the WPBA family to attend the evening meetings, these will be open to the public. We will have a special guest speaker Pastor Michael Okwakol from Zimbabwe. Please pray for all the arrangements that still have to be completed as well as for all those who will minister at te Assembly.

Our Community

Pray for all those involved in exams and other forms of assessments in schools at this time.

9.30 am. Ed Moses will be our preacher. He and his wife, Vivienne will update us on their ministry in India.
6.00pm. We continue with the series – “What can I do?” Tonight “What we can do about alcohol and drug abuse” Peter Smallbones is the preacher.
