Weekly Prayer Letter

Claremont Back to Church Sunday is 7th September! All the Christian churches in Claremont are inviting the residents of Claremont to attend their neighbourhood church on that Sunday. Please be in prayer for this day and for those whom you can invite. You can check out the facebook page here.

Missions

• Geraldine Akers had an operation on her shoulder and asks for prayer as they have a busy work load in Mozambique.
• Ed and Vivienne Moses are in Cape Town for 3 months to report to their supporters, spend time with family and be refreshed before returning to India. They will be in our church on August 31st Vivienne’s mother is seriously ill.
• Sydney Davis and her team will be leaving Ireland soon. Will give a report on their tour in the next prayer letter.

CBC Family

When you pray for our church family, why not contact them – either phone call, sms, email etc – and let them know that they have been in your thoughts and prayers. This will be a great encouragement to all.

• Ian Wood-Calender is in Crescent Clinic. He is there to get his anti-depressant medication corrected. He asks that we pray for him. Pray also for Thorhild and Cameron at home during this time.
• Peter and Barbie Anderson are home and thankful for their wonderful holiday.  
• Do be in prayer for Peter and Megan Landry as they consider where God is leading them next year.
• Pray for CBC family who are overseas –. Ra Lennox (UK), Michael Fourie (Mediterranean) Annette Miller (USA)

CBC Ministries

• This Sunday we have our church fellowship lunch – all welcome. We will be showing photos and videos of the rooted Weekend away!
• There will be a Church quarterly meeting on 19th August at 7.30pm. This will be a very important meeting in which we will vote on a new Youth Pastor. The call committee has done its work and will be recommending to the church that we appoint Rob Swan to that position. At that meeting we will also be voting on an addition to the eldership. Please diarise this date!
• The Back to Church Sunday is on the 7th September. Please be in prayer for this – particularly for those whom you will be inviting.
• We do need someone to help Sheila and Brenda on the food distribution poverty relief ministry.

Denominational

• News from other churches: Lakeview Baptist (Retreat) have a Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Here is a testimony:
  

“On 16 June our team did an outreach into the community. After we finished I gave all the clients a lift home. When I dropped Nicolas off he shared that he was going to buy new wedding rings. I asked him what happened to the original rings. Nicolas replied, ‘’Jerry when I was in my active addiction stage I sold our rings. I have to go and buy new ones.”

Nicolas came to our programme two and a half years ago. When he started the recovery programme he was separated from his family due to his drug addiction. Today he’s reunited with his family and working. Last Sunday Nicolas brought their new wedding rings to church to be blessed by our Pastor.”

Our Community

• The wife of Rev. John Hansen of St. Saviour’s Church in Claremont had a stroke and died on Thursday evening. Please be in prayer for that family and their church.
• Pray for peace in the trouble spots around the world – Israel/Palestine; Northern Iraq; Ukraine; Nigeria.
• There is now a great need in the Gaza Baptist Church who are trying to help 130 Christian families as well as over 1000 Muslims with food and other essential aid. The Baptist World Alliance has a set up a relief fund to which you may donate. 

Sunday 10 August

• 9.30 am. “Priorities from Timothy – Spiritual leadership, what’s this about?” Peter Smallbones will be preaching from 1 Tim 3. 
  
• 6.00pm. Things every Christian should know. ‘A crash course on the end times!’ Rob Swan will be the preacher.
