SERVICE AND MISSIONS

"God's primary plan is to bring salvation to all people, and the call of Christ is to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations."

The Great Commission - Matt 28:18

We believe missions and evangelism should be of first importance in the church, which is the body of Christ.

We are committed to prayer, financial support and sending missionaries into the world.

Many of our youth have also committed themselves to serving in the mission field on short to medium term assignments.

Definition of Missionaries

A missionary is defined as one called of God and gifted in the ministries needed to fulfill that call on their lives.  Part of their ministry involves church planting and teaching.

There are, however, many gifted believers with skills which fit into a mission context.  Some are doctors, pilots, nurses, teachers, engineers, woodworkers, radio broadcasters, sent to foreign lands, with the aim of using theirs skills to share God's love through the gospel.

Here in the local church a mission-field exists all around us.  We encourage all members to be involved in reaching out;  there are many opportunities.

The promotion of missions encourages an interest in the following:

  • To build up a concern for missions for financial and other support.

  • Identify, encourage and send potential missionaries into the field.

  • Prayer for their specific/personal needs.

  • Acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries and special family events.

  • Promote and present a variety of outside Missions Organisations to the Congregation.

We support the following people in missions:

  • Brian and Lorraine Milner - (SIM) developing evangelistic movies for rural Kwazulu-Natal.

  • Lynette Schaeffer - training children's workers in evangelism

  • Murray Crawford - Short term with Mercy Ships

  • Margaret Herringshaw - (AIM) retired

  • Len and Zip Glass - (AEF) retired

"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring GOOD NEWS"  Rom 10:14.  Pray for the mission field that we have right here in Cape Town.  Our missionary vision at Claremont Baptist Church is to be a sending church, preparing and supporting people for ministry in Africa and abroad.  We are excited by the three people who responded to God's call to go into missions during 2007.  These are Lorna Bucklow to Mbali Mission in Zambia;  Joan Kotze and Murray Crawford to Mercy Ships.  We pray that we all may see ourselves as missionaries in the world.

Social concern

JAMES 2 V 4:16
.........suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food, if one says to them "go I wish you well"....but does nothing about their needs, what good is it?
